Everything we know (and don’t know) about all those rumors circulating

It’s no secret that animation has become a major medium of entertainment, and the industry has taken notice. From large-scale theatrical releases to broadcast wars, animation is causing quite a stir in the media space. Of course, major companies like Crunchyroll and Netflix have worked in the animation business for ages, but other forces are treading in the industry. And now, Disney and Bleach seem to have caused all kinds of hype online thanks to one complicated rumor.

So of course, we’re here to break down what we know, what’s being said, and what’s still uncertain. The question on everyone’s mind right is whether Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War will air on Disney+, and the current answer is we’re not sure.

The whole thing figured Last weekend, well-known influencers in the anime space started posting about Bleach. There have been reports going live that the new Bleach anime will not be airing on Crunchyroll as expected or even Netflix. Instead, it has been reported that Disney+ will be broadcasting the much-anticipated series and that more information about the licensing will be released in September on Disney+ Day.

The rumors come after months of radio silence from streaming services regarding Bleach. Viz Media hosted a mainboard for the upcoming series at Anime Expo, and the company confirmed its long-time licensing of Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War. The only question that remained was where Bleach would be broadcasted because Viz Media does not have its own streaming service. The company sub-licenses streaming services, and so far, the usual culprits for the animation deals have been Crunchyroll, Hulu, and Netflix.

And now? Well, if rumors have any teeth, Hulu’s ties to Disney may have helped Disney+ land one of the best anime licenses of the year.

Of course, the obvious problem with this flowing rumor is due to heresy. No official word has been given by any company as to where Bleach will air its new anime. This applies to audiences in America, Japan and the whole world. No service has announced plans to stream the anime, so for now, fans are on hold. The only word we have about Bleach’s move to Disney comes from influencers, and while fans are unexpected, they admit that the anime’s move to Disney wouldn’t shock them.

After all, Disney+ is one of the biggest streaming services globally right now, and it’s reaching far more markets than Hulu. When it comes to access, the service compares to Netflix and Crunchyroll as it comes to the global market. Disney+ has also made a concerted effort in Japan to license a series of broadcasts including Twisted Wonderland, Summertime Rendering, and even Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. The company knows that the animation is bringing in subscribers, so it’s not hard to believe that Disney will get into a bidding war on Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War. The lack of updates about the home livestream speaks volumes, so it was only a matter of time before the fan base started gossiping. And if Ichigo heads to Disney, well – hoping to make a cameo in the upcoming Kingdom Hearts game!
